When you are making changes in your house, you usually invite your friends to see that. In congregations, when you are making changes that help the people feel like it’s a place where they want to be, their confidence grows, and they’ll want to invite people to show them.
Example: Older congregation wanted to get younger people from the community and their family in. They painted walls and hung pictures. The people were proud of the change. They invited their families to come see what had been done. And they kept going, looking for other improvements they could make.
How do you know a congregation needs a boost?
- Hear a defeatist attitude
- See it lived out (outdated info on bulletin board)
How do you help give the boost? Think in terms of spiritual gifts—not just individuals but churchwide.
- What are they good at?
- What do they rally around?
- What has God done through this group that draws people to them?
When confidence is built, the congregation points people to Christ and what he’s doing. They are vibrant, being who God created them to be.
