Keeping a ready list of volunteers is important to leading well in women’s ministry. Spending time with women in your church helps you become a better leader and build a successful ministry.

These five steps will help you.

  1. First, pray. Ask the Lord to help you understand your needs. Think about the personality qualities you’re looking for. As you pray, generate a list of roles and responsibilities and the matching qualities that describe the people you’re looking for.
  2. Take time to write out brief job descriptions for the volunteer opportunities in your ministry.
  3. Next, pray. Set aside a new time for prayer and pray specifically for the women in your church. Thank God for each of them, ask for discernment, and trust that He will help you and your team have the right conversations at the right time.
  4. Talk with your leadership team and ask them to help identify women who could step into their roles, if needed. Think about the people who are most engaged at your gatherings.
  5. Finally, ask your church staff, other volunteer leaders, and friends if they know people who fit your descriptions, and pray over each name. As the Lord provides women to serve, thank Him for that provision.

It’s easy to feel as though the success of your women’s ministry group depends on you. Rest in the assurance that this is the Lord’s Church. He is one step ahead of you—equipping, encouraging, and building a volunteer team.
