To Theme or Not to Theme?

By Gail Marsh

That’s a good question! As you stand at the beginning of a New Year, you may have asked that very thing. Before you answer the “Can churches really benefit from a yearly theme” question, consider this: Do themes, slogans, and taglines work? Do they immediately bring to mind a specific product or idea? Read the following and see for yourself!

“Melts in your mouth, not in your hands.”

“Semper Fi”

“Betcha can’t eat just one.”

“I’m lovin it!”

“You’re in good hands . . .”

“Tastes so good, cats ask for it by name.”

The power of words is amazing, isn’t it? But you may be thinking: We’re not in the cat food business, nor does our ministry involve peddling fast food or insurance!  And thankfully, you’re right!

Workers who spread the gospel message of Christ already have the very best words possible: the very Word of God! Church workers realize that only the Holy Spirit can change hearts and bring the lost into the family of believers in Jesus. However, the question of adopting a yearly church theme is very different from a marketing campaign. An extended or yearly theme, within a church setting, hopes to do two things: unite the congregation, and set a central focus for every one of its individual ministries and members.

When you look at a church theme in this way, you can probably imagine a variety of benefits. And you’ll be happy to find a ready-to-go church theme waiting for you at ctainc.com!
