Y'all Come!

You and your amazing team of volunteers have put forth a monumental effort to make this year’s children’s Christmas event the best one your community has ever seen! Now all that’s left to be done is to bring in the kids. How can you get the word out about your event? What can you do to ensure that children from your neighborhood and beyond hear the real Christmas story—the truth that Jesus has come to be their Savior? Here are some suggestions:

  • If you collected contact information from your summer vacation Bible school attendees, use it! Link families to blog or website posts about your Christmas children’s event. Or send an email or text to invite them to your event.
  • Ask church staff, members, and event volunteers to post information about the celebration on all of their social media pages.
  • Use Facebook, Eventful, or Eventbrite to promote this special celebration of Christ’s birth. (If you create a Facebook Event, you can “boost it” for a nominal fee.)
  • Film children from your church as they explore parts of your decorated event space. Include “sneak peeks” into some of your planned activities and be sure to capture the kids’ excitement on film. Ask nearby churches to play the film on the Sundays leading up to your event.
  • Print event flyers to take to schools, sport practices, dance classes, and more. Ask adults to send your invitational flyers home with students.
  • Post flyers about your celebration all around town: toy stores, rec centers, libraries, community notice boards, and anywhere families might see them.
  • Ask a photographer to take high-quality pictures that help show some of what you’ve planned. Take resulting photos to your local newspaper’s community events manager and provide information to be published well before the event.
  • Create an event hashtag and share it everywhere!
  • Set up a “Pop-Up Booth” outside your local mall, grocery store, or park. Hand out information to kids and families who pass by.
  • Go “live” on Facebook Live, YouTube Live, or Instagram Stories. Let enthusiastic volunteers and kids tell about the event.
  • Use your church signage to tell the community about your celebration.
  • Design event t-shirts for volunteers and students to wear in the days leading up to the event.
  • Ask the local Christian radio station to promote your event.
  • Offer special prizes to kids who bring a friend to your celebration. Encourage word-of-mouth promotion from your church’s adults, too!
  • Print event tickets (even if your event is free) and ask area churches to distribute the tickets to children who attend Sunday school, Scout meetings, or other activities hosted at church.

Whew! That’s quite a list! Talk about the possibilities with your planning team. Try a few strategies and see how God blesses your efforts. Celebrate the Savior with joy!
