Two Prayers for Parents

By Matt Behrens

A Prayer for Daily Wisdom

Read 2 Chronicles 1:7–13

[God answered Solomon,] “Because this was in your heart, and you have not asked for possessions, wealth, honor, or the life of those who hate you, and have not even asked for long life, but have asked for wisdom and knowledge for yourself that you may govern my people over whom I have made you king, wisdom and knowledge are granted to you” (2 Chronicles 1:11–12 ESV).

God, you gave great wisdom to Solomon so that he could lead and care for others. As my children grow and mature, I see their need for wisdom. I can try to provide this on my own, but you are the true source of wisdom. You loved Solomon’s request for wisdom, so I’m bold to ask that you give wisdom in abundance to my children. Do this for your glory. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

A Prayer for Good Choices

Thank you, Jesus, for choosing to come into this world as a man to save us. Thank you for choosing to sacrifice yourself so that we would be saved. I’m sorry I get bent out of shape over the much smaller choices my kids make. I want them to choose well. Please give my kids the discernment to know good from evil. Give them boldness to choose right over wrong. Lead them so that in all their choices, they follow you and your calling. Amen.
