But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son (Galatians 4:4 ESV).
No one decorated cookies or hung garland on heaven’s mantel. But it was time. Time for Christmas! All the holy angels stood on tiptoes, watching in awe as God began to reveal his grace in a new, a startling, a breathtaking way.
On earth, the Holy Spirit was at work. He had been at work for thousands of years—especially through his prophets. For all those years, God’s people had waited, puzzling long over what the prophets’ promises could mean, longing for those promises to come true.
Then, suddenly, the waiting was over in heaven and on earth. The angel Gabriel announced the good news to a maiden named Mary: The long-promised Savior was on his way!
