It Is Finished: The Last Words of Christ

March

- We ask for forgiveness because we’ve heard Jesus offer forgiveness from the cross. With his words ringing in our ears, we are confident to ask, “Lord, forgive me, too.”

- Forgiveness to the Fullest: For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more. Jeremiah 31:34

- The cross is evidence of the finality of forgiveness.

- O God, the sins of the past haunt me. In Jesus’ name, remember them no more. Show me grace in my present and future. Hold me close to the cross as I . . .

- A Model of Forgiveness: Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. Matthew 6:12

- God’s forgiveness is infectious. In the Lord’s Prayer, Jesus tied together God’s forgiveness and ours. He invites us not only to ask for forgiveness but to extend it. We respond to God by doing what he has done for us.

- Sunday provides a break from the repentant focus of the days of Lent and is celebrated as a “Little Easter.” Today, take time to contemplate the resurrection and glory of our Lord.

- Jesus, you taught me to forgive as I have been forgiven. Give me strength to forgive those who have hurt me, like . . .

- For God, there is no such thing as a “lost cause.” No one is beyond his power to save.

- Lord, show me the way of compassion and use me to bring your mercy to someone far from you. Teach me your ways of forgiveness so that . . .

- Lord, fill us with genuine exuberance at your mighty power to save.

- Heavenly Father, source of all joy, impart your joy to me today. Overwhelm any sadness or boredom in me and restore the joy of salvation so that . . .

- The Lamb is on the throne, God’s people around him in eternal praise. Keep this vision in your pocket and pull it out every time the world’s burdens overwhelm you. Christ wins.

- Sunday provides a break from the repentant focus of the days of Lent and is celebrated as a “Little Easter.” Today, take time to contemplate the resurrection and glory of our Lord.

- Lamb of God, give me strength to endure the challenges of life and to hope for what’s to come in eternity.

- The infant in the manger became the man on the cross. Look and see: here is salvation.

- Salvation means “to deliver out of a desperate situation.” Only one Person can do that. Only Jesus. Reflect upon how you will lift up his name this week.

- God promises to hear the questions of the afflicted, and he has compassion. Write the name of someone you know who is struggling today. How can you bring hope to that person though God’s promises?

- Lord, don’t hold my groaning, my questions, against me. Sometimes you seem so far away. Come near, by the grace of Jesus Christ. Lead me to trust in you and rely on your Word as I . . .

- He will not leave you or forsake you. Deuteronomy 31:6 Despair is not the final word. God has answered the question “Have you forsaken me?” And, he says, “No. Never.”

- Sunday provides a break from the repentant focus of the days of Lent and is celebrated as a “Little Easter.” Today, take time to contemplate the resurrection and glory of our Lord.

- O God, you never leave me. Assure me of your presence in every moment of this day. Comfort my hurts, ease my anxieties, erase my fears, and be near me as . . .

- In my distress I called upon the LORD; to my God I cried for help. Psalm 18:6 Many of us resist tears. In the psalms we see that it’s okay to cry. Our Lord knows our tears and what causes them. He comes with help.

- God of the tearful, I cry to you. I am not ashamed to do so. See my distress and hear my prayer. Reassure me with the Savior’s love . . .

- I called out to the LORD, out of my distress, and he answered me. Jonah 2:2

- Nothing will separate us from our Lord and Savior! Not because our grip is so strong but because his is.

- The love of Christ overwhelms and overrules all distress. What areas of your life threaten to take you away from Jesus? How does Jesus pull you back with his love?

- Sunday provides a break from the repentant focus of the days of Lent and is celebrated as a “Little Easter.” Today, take time to contemplate the resurrection and glory of our Lord.

- Jesus Christ, you made yourself nothing for me. I am nearly speechless. I can only say, “Thank you, Lord.” Pour your love into me and show me ways to empty myself in order to serve others.

- Jesus, you fed more than 5,000 people at once (Luke 9). So satisfy me. Where I am empty and in need, fill me with your good gifts. I cry out to you . . .

- The Lord is worthy of our trust. In the darkest night, he will not leave us. On the worst of days, his mercy will never cease.
