As she labored, Mary’s eyes no doubt searched the stable’s interior. Can’t you just imagine a small smile tugging at the corner of her lips as Mary recognizes the irony. If any baby deserved a grand palace or a royally decorated nursery, it was this Baby, Jesus. Instead, Mary wrapped our Savior, the King of kings, in strips of cloth and placed him gently in the hay.
No palace, this stable! Yet, God’s perfect plan of salvation prevailed. Rather than allow her heart to be disappointed, Mary probably took a good long look around the little stable—not to criticize it but to commit it to memory. Mary marveled at God’s plan. She treasured it in her heart.
Still today, God accomplishes his perfect will through what we may deem imperfect circumstances. Our Lord uses ordinary people and sometimes unique situations to fulfill his extraordinary plans. Spend a few quiet moments to consider what plans your Lord may have for you this Christmas season.
Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God (John 14:1 NLT).
Let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts (Colossians 3:15 NLT)
Pray: Lord, show me those quiet moments when I can remember what’s truly important—my Savior, Jesus. Wrap my burdened heart completely in your love and peace. I pray this, trusting in you, Lord. Amen.
