Friends

By Gail Marsh

Buddy. Bestie. Pal. These are all words that mean “friend.” Friendship is a kind of love. The friendship kind of love is very strong! Real friendship love can last for many years—sometimes the love of a friend can last your whole life long!

Jesus calls you his friend! And he is the kind of Friend who will always, always love you! But how can you know for sure that Jesus is really your Friend? Just look what your Friend, Jesus Christ, did for you:

God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners (Romans 5:8 NLT).

Long before you were even born, Jesus wanted you to be his friend. Jesus’ love for you was so strong that he would do anything—even die and come alive again—so that you could be his friend forever. So, that’s just what Jesus did!

Things to talk about with family and friends:

  • Who was your very first friend?
  • How do you show your friends that you love them?
  • Is Jesus your Friend? How do you know this?
  • Tell about a few times when you especially need Jesus, your forever Friend, by your side.

Use some paper to write or draw what you think makes a good friend. If you run out of ideas, ask someone—a friend, maybe?

Have you ever thanked someone for being your friend? Do it today!
