Back to School
Since the COVID-19 outbreak, students and teachers have remained in isolation at home. Classrooms have been shuttered, bells and playgrounds silenced. Hopefully all of that will change this fall and we’ll have some opportunities to be together. That will be real cause for celebration! What will your back-to-school celebration look like? Here are a few ideas:
Back to School Party – Invite families to join together for an evening of fun. CTA has three back-to-school options for you:
- Back-to-School Celebration! If you are in an area that has been able to open up more freely, you’ll have fun with the ideas in this event. Involve your community and have a blast! The PDF download includes printables at the end to help you advertise and involve parents. It also includes ideas for a backpack blessing.
- Back-to-School Preteen Event This hour-long event is written with preteens in mind, so if you need to keep your plans to small groups, take a look. It includes games, devotion time and Bible learning.
- Glow-in-the-Dark Event This glow-in-the-dark event is sure to delight! Complete with games and other activities that comply with social distancing, this party proves there is still lots of fall fun to be had!
Meet and Greet – Arrange a day and time for students to meet with their homeroom teachers who serve your Christian school. Teachers may showcase the curriculum to be used, distribute and collect required health and participation forms, and talk with students. New students can tour the school facilities with a current student and thereby know at least one person on that important first day.
Backpack Items Collection – Incorporate a service project with your Backpack Blessing this year. Ask families to purchase and donate school supplies for needy children to be collected at your Backpack Blessing celebration.
Adopt a Kid – Invite church members to ‘adopt’ a child for the coming school year. ‘Adoption’ means that the adult will pray for their child frequently, send encouragement throughout the school year, and in other ways stay in touch with their ‘adoptee.’
Whatever you choose to do, think about ways you may be able to tweak your event to comply with any remaining social distancing regulations. No matter what—going back to school is certainly something to celebrate! And the time to begin planning is now!
