SMILES AS YOU SERVE

Compiled by Tim Wesemann

Oh give thanks to the LORD; call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples!
1 Chronicles 16:8 ESV

Each day is a day of giving thanks to the Lord. We thank him for his faithfulness, grace, earthly blessings, and eternal salvation through Jesus. In honor of the official day of Thanksgiving this month, I’m going to give thanks for the blessings of smiles, laughter, and joy. Satan revels in squashing those blessings in our lives. Pray to the Lord of joy that he would fight that battle for you and spread some smiles to those in your life today.

If you need help putting the final touches on your Thanksgiving Day dinner, look no further—I’m serving up a side of smiles to embellish your holiday menu.

The Joy of Thanksgiving Worship

Carlos and Annie were enjoying Thanksgiving Day at their grandparents’ house. As the family prepared the Thanksgiving dinner, their grandmother saw the children looking up at a greeting card displayed on the mantel. She picked up the card and showed it to her grandchildren.

“Uncle Ted sent me this Thanksgiving card,” she explained. “See how the Pilgrim children in the picture are going to church with their mothers and fathers? They must love to worship with their family on Thanksgiving Day.”

“Are you sure they love to go to church, Grandma?” Annie asked. Carlos chimed in, “Or are they just going because their dad is carrying a rifle?”

So Many Blessings!

As part of the Thanksgiving meal, the Mason family took turns listing blessings for which they were thankful. When it came time for a 30-something daughter and son-in-law to share, they had big news. They announced they were expecting another baby!

While sounds of joy and celebration filled the room, Grandmother asked the couple’s three boys if they were excited about the new baby blessing. They all shared their excitement. Then six-year-old Jason, who had obviously overheard some of his parents’ private conversations, spoke up, “I even know what we’re going to name the baby! If it’s a girl we’re going to call her Christina, and if it’s a boy we’re going to call it quits!”

Too Much Food!

After celebrating a large Thanksgiving meal with a house full of family, a couple prepared to settle in for a nice long night of sleep. From the bedroom, the wife noticed her husband standing on the bathroom scale, sucking in his ample stomach. Thinking he was trying to weigh less with this maneuver, she quipped, "I don't think that is going to help much, Hon."

"Sure it does," he said. "How else can I see the numbers?"

His wife laughed and asked, “You know that’s not all from Thanksgiving dinner, right?”

Her husband responded, “I didn't mean to gain weight. It happened by snaccident.”

Way Too Much Food!

Reminder

On the weekend prior to Thanksgiving Day, don’t forget to set your scales back ten pounds!
